Our God is generous, and it is an important part of any life of faith to give thanks in return, sharing what we have with others. West Concord Union Church invites your financial gifts throughout the year to support our shared ministry. For those who prefer to give electronically, you can donate securely using PayPal (choose the “Send Money to Friends & Family” option to avoid fees). You can also read about why members give to WCUC.
Every fall, we engage the whole community in a Congregational Giving appeal, making a special request for pledges and gifts.
Pledges are important: Making a pledge encourages us to discern what we will give over the course of a year in a prayerful and intentional way. Pledges also allow the church to create a balanced budget to support our staff, programs, buildings, and grounds.
Our church depends on you: This church is self-supporting. All of our staff salaries, program costs, maintenance, and mission giving come from your financial gifts, supplemented by our building’s rental income
Money has everything to do with faith: Although money is an uncomfortable subject for many of us, it was Jesus’ favorite topic of conversation. He teaches that spending has a big impact on spiritual health. As we raise money to support our ministry together, we are also teaching and learning the spiritual discipline of generosity that is important in every aspect of our lives.
How Much Should I Give?
Jesus teaches us that what we have is not our own, but a gift and a resource for all of God’s creation. Deciding how to use the money entrusted to our care is difficult for everyone. The most common guideline for Christian giving is a tithe, or 10% of our yearly income, traditionally contributed to a church. Some Christians today have embraced the idea of a “modern tithe,” giving 5% of their income to a church, and 5% to other causes. For others, 10% seems an almost unreachable goal. They may challenge themselves to gradually increase the percentage of their income that they give, and allot a portion of these gifts each year to the church. However your prayer and personal budget guide you to give, know that your gift will be treasured by this community and make a difference in our ministry together. You can find a proportional giving chart here.
