Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth.

Make Music with Us!

We believe that music and the arts can enrich our worship, deepen our faith, and connect us to God. Our enthusiastic and accomplished singers, instrumentalists, and bell ringers regularly enliven our services with music from a variety of traditions. Everyone is welcome to participate, and right now we have a particular need for string, woodwind and brass players.

WCUC

James Barkovic, our minister of music, oversees all our music making and enthusiastically mentors beginners and proficient musicians alike. He works closely with the minister to select inspiring, relevant music for each service. We use the Pilgrim Hymnal, New Century Hymnal, and a variety of other resources for congregational singing. Twice a year, our senior choir joins with the choir from Holy Family Parish in Concord to present special performances during worship. Guest musicians occasionally enhance our services.

Senior Choir
Adult and teen singers of all skill levels and experience are invited to participate in our Senior Choir, which performs during worship services each Sunday from September through June. Auditions are not required. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 8:00 - 9:30 p.m. at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord, with the choir of Holy Family Parish; both groups are under the direction of our minister of music, James Barkovic. Each year, they jointly present two special music programs, which have included Faure's “Requiem,” Haydn's “Kleine Orgelmesse,” Mozart's “Coronation Mass,” Saint-Saens' “Christmas Oratorio” and Vivaldi's “Gloria.”

Celebration Youth Choir
The Celebration Youth Choir is for youth 8 to 18, and it performs one Sunday a month. Directed by Chris Porth, a gifted music teacher and performer, members of the chorus develop age-appropriate musicality and have fun doing it. Practice is held each Sunday for 45 minutes after church and new participants are always welcome.

Handbells
The Handbell Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at the church; it plays during worship about once a month. The Schulmerich handbells were donated to the church in 1991 by the late Anna Damon. Anyone interested in playing the bells with us should contact Jim Barkovic.

Other musicians welcome
If your musical talents don’t fit into one of our choirs, we still encourage you to share them with us. Please contact our minister of music for more information.
