Work is continuing all over the building, and it is amazing to watch things take shape. Here are a few developments:

Renovation Update: September 6th
Work continues all around the building. We hope to finish the sanctuary and kitchen mid-September and the exterior work in October. Thanks for your patience!
Renovation Update: August 30th
Take a look at some of the progress that has happened in the past few weeks. This is only what we managed to capture in pictures!
Renovation Update: August 10th
Work is continuing at the church this week, including exterior paint scraping and interior carpentry. The most visible changes are happening outside as excavation is done in preparation for the new entryway.
Midsummer Renovation Update
You may be wondering what has happened in the building since the end of demolition! Progress now is harder to see and often happening behind safety barriers. However, we are happy to report that a great deal is going on at WCUC, including:
- A new, low platform has been built in the sanctuary apse, with a ramp leading up to it from the adjacent space near the church offices. Final carpentry and finishing come later when there’s less risk of damaging the finished product.
- Carpenters are now focusing on the Pine Street entry area, preparing the new internal stairway and vestibule.
- Painters have power washed the building and are scraping away chipped paint. Some wood will be replaced before fresh paint is applied.
- Arrangements have been made for a new heating solution in the kitchen (a mini-split) to replace an existing, barely-functional heating unit. Now we know why the kitchen was so cold!
- Plumbers and electricians are doing work in our kitchen and in the room off the apse (also known as the sacristy or Deacon’s kitchen).
- New sanctuary chairs will be complete soon and new furniture (font, pulpit, and table) is being constructed by a local woodworker.
Many thanks to our extremely hard-working Renovation Task Force, continuing to advise and facilitate the process throughout the summer: Maureen Mara (chair), Susan Coppock, Sarah Hindle, David Swain, Borgie Yunis; as well as Stewards leader John Schummers.
Demolition, Part 2
Demolition continued on June 8th & 9th.
Renovation: Demolition
After several days of prep, on June 7th a crew arrived to begin demolition. They did a huge amount of work in one day!
Renovation Begins
As soon as we were out of the building, things started changing. Our grand piano was moved (by professionals!) down to South Hall West for temporary storage. Our Organ was wrapped to protect it from dust. Fencing went up. Our Renovation Task force prepped our pews and then met a crew from Strong Tower Pentecostal Church of Stoughton who did incredible work removing them in two batches on Saturday and Sunday, the 3rd and 4th. See pictures below!
Renovation Groundbreaking
On Sunday, June 4th, we followed Pentecost kites over to our beloved building to sing, pray, goof around, and celebrate the beginning of construction!
